Overview
The Kailash Manasarovar Yatra is one of the holiest pilgrimages in Asia, revered by Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and followers of Bon religion. It is considered a spiritual journey of a lifetime, both for its religious significance and the sheer challenge of reaching Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar, located in the remote Tibetan Plateau.
- Mount Kailash (6,638 m): Believed to be the abode of Lord Shiva (Hindus), the axis of the world (Buddhists & Jains), and a sacred mountain in Bon religion. Pilgrims perform a parikrama (circumambulation) around the mountain, which is about 52 km and usually takes 3 days.
- Lake Manasarovar (4,590 m): A crystal-clear freshwater lake next to Mount Kailash. Bathing in its waters is believed to wash away sins and bring spiritual liberation.Religious Significance
- Hindus: Mount Kailash is the abode of Lord Shiva & Goddess Parvati.
- Buddhists: Associated with Mount Meru, the center of the universe.
- Jains: Lord Rishabhdev, the first Tirthankara, attained nirvana here.
- Bon Religion: Sacred as the seat of all spiritual power.
